The constraint with the conventional design is that you must have the bars above and below the feature backplate. The other reason bars are placed above and below the backplate is they cover exposed aluminium profiles, screw ports, fixings, and edges. So they’re not only decorative.
With most other steel-look doors, the placement of these bars is essential. The downside is fewer design choices.
